Update on the Ministries in India : December 2016

Monetary issues in India

You may have heard about India’s money issues recently in the news. Following is a report from Mission Network News (https://www.mnnonline.org/news/banned-rupees-wipe-life-savings/).

India (MNN) — December marks the end of a race in India — one that many will lose. John Sparks of India Partners spoke with us about the implications of an announcement made earlier this month.

“The Indian government, in an attempt to reduce the amount of ‘black money’ in the marketplace, has decided to demonetize the 500 and 1000 rupee note. They’ve given the people until the end of December to change their money at the bank.”

This means after December 31, any money left in these note amounts will disappear. Below are people standing outside banks waiting to withdraw their money.

I asked Brother Paul how this is affecting the Brethren there in India and this is what he wrote to me: The demonetization of the 500 and 1000 rupee bills has created major problems in our country. The poor and middle level people suffer a lot by spending the time standing for money at ATMs and Banks to draw out their own money. We have also been affected but, thank God, we got money from the bank for buying dresses for the orphanage girls for Christmas and for other purposes. Our Finance Minister says that it will take another 6 months to become normal but we have to wait and see. We request your prayers for the normal situation and the people to be free from these issues.

Here are other prayer requests that I have received:

  • Pray for 4 men in the state of Punjab who have heard about our ministry and plan to attend the 2017 Conference to learn more about us.
  • Please continue to pray for the orphanage ministry as the government continues to create more stringent regulations for us. We need wisdom and the ability to meet their demands.
  • Pray for God to raise up elders in the church at Pondicherry who will continue the work after Brother Munisamy is gone.
  • Pray for Gilbert who will be taking more exams on January 22, 2017 in order to increase his skills in the medical field.
  • Pray for the team scheduled to go to India in May 2017: Pastor Ike Graham, his wife, Nancy; Grace Steiner, Abby Pearson and Johnathan Steiner. Pray especially for their health and travel.
