Just in…Konnect with the Kids 2015

Konnect with the Kids is a program to give a gift or needed items to orphans, foster care & boarding school children in India who are associated with the church planting ministries.  The foster care ministry is a great opportunity to share the gospel with children in India.  All children are taught the Bible every day.  Their parents also hear the gospel when they come to visit their children.  We know of at least one mother who believed after hearing the gospel at the church services when she would come to visit her child.  The child you sign-up for is a specific child you can pray for, but any money/gifts you send will be split evenly between all the children.  We ask that you don’t send anything that can’t be shared.

When you sign-up you are only committing to 3 gifts throughout the next year. (See the transfer schedule below)  This is NOT a monthly support fee, this money goes to help buy a few “extra” things throughout the year.

We are going to send money to buy gifts/needed items for the children 3 times in the next year. CGBCI Foreign Missions only transfers funds toIndia once a quarter to avoid multiple bank charges.  In order for the money for the gifts to arrive in India before the needed time we have to transfer it quite a bit in advance.  Below is the transfer schedule for each of the gifts. You are welcome to pay for all 3 gifts at the same time or spread it out over the next year.

  1. Christmas gift ($20 Suggested Donation) – September 18th, 2015
  2. Clothing ($20 Suggested Donation) – December 18th, 2015
  3. School supplies and uniform ($35 Suggested Donation) – March 18th, 2016

Please have your check mailed by the dates listed above. Make your check payable to: Grace Brethren Church and send it to:

Joshua’s Reflections from India 2015

“Third time is a charm…” is the often repeated saying; to which I usually respond “I don’t believe in luck.” I firmly believe that God is in control of all things, big and little events; small and large circumstances. All that being said, by God’s grace I have been able to travel to India three times. This third trip has definitely been my favorite for a number of reasons.

Each time I go back it seems like I am able to connect with certain people a little bit more. This time I really enjoyed having the opportunity to spend time with Paul and his family, especially his two sons Gilbert and Meshach. I had spoken with them before, but this trip we were able to connect on a new level. I enjoyed the opportunity to sit down with Gilbert and just talk about life. Meshach and I connected as we tried our hand at being pharmacists, at the medical clinic outreach. Riding with them in the car and playing games strengthened the special bond that we have in Christ.

I also am grateful for the opportunity that I had to teach, along with Pastor Ike, a portion of the book of Revelation to the people at the conference. What a great privilege it is to present God’s Word to a group of people who are ready to listen. The final Monday morning that we were in India we were scheduled to go a VBS at Torbay house to observe…or so I thought. Upon arriving, I quickly learned that we were suppose to teach a lesson and then direct the activities with the kids for the next 2-3 hours! Pastor Ike nominated me to teach. Those of you who know me, know that I like to prepare and type things out before I speak, so being put on the spot was a good challenge for me. By God’s grace I was able to teach the account of Joshua and the Israelites defeating Jericho. It was fun having the kids act it out with me as we marched around the “city” seven times on the seventh day.

Another reason that made this trip one of my favorites was the fact that my girlfriend Joy was able to go along! 🙂 Because most Christians over there practice arranged marriages, we were not to mention the fact that we were courting, although Paul Rajan had the special privilege of telling a select number of people and even teasing us some times! It was simply a great experience to work and minister together! Praise the Lord!

Update on the Ministry in India : June 2015

Very soon now, the Foreign Mission Panel will be making a decision regarding whether to continue endorsement of the ministry in India. This will take place on July 2nd. They will be reviewing the new written plan for the next 4 years (through 2019). This plan calls for an increase in the India ministry budget until 2017 and also a soliciting of funds for the self-support project.

Beginning in 2017, men who are leading established churches and are not planting churches will experience a 20% cut in financial support from the CGBCI. As Pastor Ike explained to the church planters in May, this is in accord with what God says in 1 Timothy 5:17; namely, that the local church should support their pastor. Like some of our pastors in the U.S., the men realize that they will need to be self-supporting or at least generate some income. This is why over the next 18 months, we are asking for your help to raise $18,000. This money would enable the men to develop other means of financial support beginning January 1, 2017. This is an attainable goal at $1,000 per month over the next 18 months. If you can help by contributing to this “Self-Support Project,” over and above your regular financial contributions to the ministry in India, then please mark your special gift, “Self-Support Project,” and mail it to the address below. We have already received $500 toward this project.

Please continue to pray for the church planters and the house churches that they are leading because of greater opposition and persecution. In the latest issue of TIME magazine, Prime Minister Modi of India was featured. He has allowed, and promoted by his inaction, the persecution of Christians and Muslims in India. The intensity and frequency of opposition and persecution continues to increase.

On the subject of finances, Pastor Steve Burns has made it known that we are behind in our giving goals for this quarter. Currently, we need $5,000 to meet our quarterly budget goal at the end of June. Please make this a matter of prayer and ask the Lord if He would have you to be a part of the solution. We are very thankful that more than enough money was made available for our trip to India in May. Those expenses were covered and we were under budget by $1100. That money has been placed back into India Trips and resources. Thank you for your prayers and gifts regarding the India team trip. Your prayers were very important for Pastor Ike Graham. He became very ill in India. However, the Lord strengthened him to complete the mission in spite of his illness.
